The explosion occurred during repair work in the sanitary portal of one of the laboratory buildings, one worker had burns on his lower extremities and was in the intensive care unit of a local hospital. According to agency sources, the room contained no hazardous biological substances.

Established in 1974, this state-of-the-art science center is now engaged in the development of tools for the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases.
