Perth CBD was shut down by climate protesters
Climate activists brought traffic to a standstill in the Perth CBD as streets were closed and police arrested 65 disturbing protesters, including one man dressed as pirate and sticking his feet in a treasure chest.
Major roads were closed Friday morning, including the St Georges Terrace exit of the motorway and the intersection of Hay Street Mall and William Street.
At one point, the protesters stopped doing yoga and eventually used power tools to cut pipes and chains, which some people used to connect with their hands.
Supt Chahal said the police used significant resources to move them away from other areas, but in his 25 years of experience he had not seen a smoother police operation.
