A group of Russian scientists is working on the creation of optical atomic clocks to unlock the full potential of the country's digital economy, the press office of the Russian Institute for Scientific Research and Radiotechnical Metrology (VNIIFTRI) told Sputnik on Friday. ).

"The institute's new device will basically be the second generation of optical clocks. Our main task is to create devices and elements keeping time with the highest precision, and which would be used in the infrastructure of our country's digital economy," said Sergei Donchenko, general director of VNIIFTRI, as quoted by the press office.

According to Donchenko, the projects developed by the institute "help Russia to secure a place on the list of technological leadership countries in the world".
